Role in the project
In ICT4CART, Nokia is responsible for overall technical coordination and manages the working group for the communication infrastructure (4G/5G mobile communications and wireless network). In a further working group, Nokia, together with partners, is researching the use of an ultra-precise localisation technology that enables position tracking accurate up to 2 cm. Within ICT4CART, Nokia is making its 4G/5G mobile network available in the area around Ulm, so that the applications can be tested in the German test area.
About Nokia Solutions and Networks GmbH & Co. KG
Nokia creates the technology to connect the world. Powered by the research and innovation of Nokia Bell Labs, we serve communications service providers, governments, large enterprises and consumers, with the industry's most complete, end-to-end portfolio of products, services and licensing. We adhere to the highest ethical business standards as we create technology with social purpose, quality and integrity. Nokia is enabling the infrastructure for 5G and the Internet of Things to transform the human experience.
At the Science Park in the Upper Eselsberg area of Ulm, Nokia runs a globally significant research and development centre for mobile networks. The 750 or so employees are mainly focused on 5G, the latest generation of technology. In Nokia’s Ulm Demo Centre, customers can experience 5G technology first hand. The location is also involved in a large number of research projects with public funding and supports postgraduate students at universities at home and abroad through a corresponding funding program. The location’s integration in a lively and innovative ecosystem, as can be found in and around Ulm, is also important for Nokia. For research and development projects in the greater Ulm area, Nokia operates its own 4G/5G mobile network, which is optimised for time-critical applications and also uses the fibre optic networks of the city of Ulm and the state of Baden-Württemberg.
